year with Edwd Standen, we did not give it sufficient time, and the day was too hot; in such weather a late evening promenade is desired but Edwd’s anxiety to “get on” towards Waterloo prevented this. I was glad now to repair this error. Very much amusement did we derive from visiting the beautiful shops of this place, and a lounge in the park & coffee and an ice (of fruit) at the caffe Velloni there was vastly agreeable. As night came on, lanterns were hung to the trees, a band was playing sweetly, gay promenaders were everywhere flitting about. The illusion was complete, it was the feast of Lanterns.
