Brussels in 80 minutes, including all stoppages. This is not bad for Belgium – 30 miles is the distance. The number of passengers was very large.

Lions & shopping. The appetite for seeing everything good, or not worth seeing has lost its edge with our ladies & they were not sorry I fancy that a storm overtook them while ascending the tower of the Hotel de Ville.

The cathedral with its carved pulpit & stained glass windows & tapestry & tombs shews them the error of wasting so much time as we have done on rubbish at other places. The Prince of Orange’s palace looks more sweetly beautiful than ever. May he soon inhabit it again. His carriages are still here & remain in good condition.
