the cheapness of the fare 1/3 with luggage to Huy & d1 more to Liege shews this. One horse towed us along, but there were more at the head of the boat to tow it back against [the] stream. The banks were very familiar to me, for I walked along them last year & many spots called up pleasing recollections. By the bridge at Huy we changed into a larger boat, but a less agreeable one, dined on Oxford cake, cherries and amiable “vin du pays” & before arriving at Liege saw no end of coal buckets on wheels 20 feet long. The river gains width, but not beauty here, though there is always much to amuse. The fine chateau of Choquier up on a high cliff with a sloping park on one side must have a splendid prospect.

The Palais de Justice is to me the most interesting building in Liege with its carved Moorish pillars like those of the Ducal Palace at Venice
