This day we devoted to sight seeing. And accordingly we commenced by visiting the suites of rooms etc. of the Hotel de la Porte (“Lionizing as well as Charity begins at home”). Some of the salons, bedrooms & their furniture of mosaic tables marble & fine woods, glasses hangings & paperings are equal to many palaces. – The secretary of the hotel M. Oldi, who shewed us every attention during our stay here, shewed us also the stables & their inhabitants. Fine portly yet active dames are these Flanders mares, as I have often seen in balls at home stout ladies dance equally lightly with those of spare proportions. £12 is the average price for good 4 year old posters, for riding horses the English breed is better. They seem to draw without difficulty
