This site is a guide and reference source for researchers and potential researchers into Oxfordshire's history, archaeology, landscape and buildings. It aims to provide concise support and guidance on use of the mass of published accounts and raw materials concerning Oxfordshire's past. The site offers an historical framework and sequences of information and ideas, from which selected links, downloadable texts, and suggested reading, contacts and activities are designed to enable users to go on to further and more detailed investigations of their choice.
Membership
Individual membership costs £12.00 for a year; this entitles the member to attend the society's meetings and to receive that year's copy of Oxoniensia. Members are also entitled to attend excursions and the two parties in the summer and at Christmas, for which extra charges are made.
Family membership costs £17.00 for a year and covers all those living at a single address, including one copy of Oxoniensia.
The O.A.H.S. library
An additional benefit of membership is access to the Society's library, which is housed in the Sackler library, Oxford. The earlier volumes betray the interest of the Society's founders in ecclesiastical architecture, and many of the books added then are now extremely hard to find. From later periods the library retains a good selection of books and ephemera concerning local history, including many titles reviewed in Oxoniensia.
Joining
The simplest way to join is to decide whether you want family or individual membership and press the appropriate button to the right. You will be charged the appropriate sum for a year's membership via Paypal. You will be able to manage your membership using the membership pages on this website and a reminder that your next sub is due will be sent by email at the appropriate time.
If you prefer you can join by printing out a membership form and sending it to the membership secretary with a cheque or a completed standing order.
Membership is for a calendar year: subscriptions received after 1st October will be treated as subscriptions for the next year.
Oxoniensia goes to press in May, and the society prints as many copies as are needed for current members as well as a number of spare copies for future sales. We will do our best to supply the current volume to all new members joining after May, but if there is exceptional demand we reserve the right to offer a choice of volume from those still available.
